Board of directors

Humera Khan, President

For over 25 years, Humera has been evolving as a business entrepreneur and is now working as a designated Immigration Consultant in all aspects of immigration law. Her devotion to community led her to start the South Asian Women's Association of Canada, in which she currently serves as chairperson, in addition to her role as President of Amal.

Tasha Anglin, Treasurer

Tasha is a Certified Professional Accountant with the Ordre des CPA du Quebec and has over 17 years of accounting experience in the private sector. She is also the owner and CEO of Ventureco Accounting services and has previously served as a governing board member and parents’ committee member at Souvenir Elementary

Sonia Ben Soltane, Secretary

Sonia is an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa School of Social Work and holds a Ph.D. from McGill University. She joined the center in 2017 before moving to Gatineau, and later rejoined as Secretary of the board in January 2022. She hopes to contribute to developing the center's leadership on culturally-informed interventions and defining guidelines for collaboration in research.

Nafija Rahman, Community Outreach

Nafija has been with Amal since 2018 as a community outreach worker. She holds a degree in Linguistics and Translation from Concordia University and has also been a community activist for over a decade. In 2021, Nafija ran as a candidate with Mouvement Montreal in the southwest of Montreal. She is currently a cultural interpreter for the CIUSSS and the Refugees and Immigration Board of Canada, and a steering community member at Concordia’s SHIFT Centre.

Aseema Kabir, Communications

Aseema is a communications professional with a background in health and patient advocacy. She began this work as an intern at a local grassroots nonprofit after completing her undergraduate degree, and has since worked professionally in medical education. She is also a SHIFT Centre hub member. Aseema volunteered her design skills at Amal prior to joining as a Communications Specialist, and now Board Member.

Rukhsana Bhimani, Operations

Rukhsana brings over 25 years of experience in administration and operations. She has been a volunteer with Amal since 2010 and has helped organize and work on various events and activities for Amal for over a decade.

Staff

Christine Menendez, Center coordinator

Christine Menendez has been our center coordinator since 2020. She is a graduate of Concordia University and a mother of three. Christine brings a great deal of experience to her role, having been an Amal client, volunteer, and Board member, before joining the staff team as center coordinator. Christine enjoys helping fellow staff, volunteers, and interns as they take on leadership roles at the Amal Center. 

Ghada Mohamed, Caseworker

Ghada completed her medical degree in Egypt and graduated with a degree in Psychology from Concordia University. She is a member of the Centre for Clinical Research in Health at Concordia and has worked on a project focused on mental health needs of Arab and Muslim women in Montreal. She has previously worked with teenagers experiencing psychosis and drug addiction. Ghada offers services to our clients in Arabic and English.

Najet Hamrouni, Caseworker

Najet has worked as a social worker for a CIUSSS for nearly 8 years with a clientele of asylum seekers and refugees. She has created and led our Active Listening project and provides multilingual services to our community in Arabic, French, English, and Spanish.

Houda Jeribi, Client services agent

Houda has recently joined the Amal Center and performs triage services and Active Listening, while receiving training for case worker duties. She has recently graduated with a degree in psychoeducation.
